As we know it, the Sibley Family began with Adam Sibley born in 1830 in Camden County, GA and his wife Gracie Parrish Sibley. To that union were 3 girls and five boys: Cornelius, James, Alonzo, Henry, Harriett, Venona (known as “Nona”), Emily, Nellie, Peter James, Aaron and Jim (known as “Uncle Sonny”). It is told that the Sibley men’s occupation was a stevedore. (Dock Laborers) Cornelius James Sibley had four children: Adams, Lucinda, Joseph, and Ruth. Alonzo Sibley had six children; Augusta (known as “Gus”, Rosa, Willie, Canny, Marybell and Otis. Henry Sibley had no children and no further information is currently available. Harriett Sibley married Charles Weston and had eleven children; Robert Lee, Rozena, Charles, Benjamin, Florida, Louise, Bertha, Blanche, Grace, Bill, and Aaron. Harriett Sibley-Weston died April 27, 1942.
Aaron Weston was born June 1, 1900 in Scarlett, GA which is located near Woodbine, GA. On April 29, 1923 he married Leatha Roberts of Crooked River and had children; Dorothy Mae, Feliz, Ethel Lee, Alphonso, Benny James, Calvin, Bobby, Laura, and Betty Jean. Aaron Weston died November 23, 1985. Verona Sibley married Bill Weston, and had one child; Florence. Bill was the brother of Charles Weston. (Harriett Sibley Weston’s husband) Florence Weston married Burrell Campbell and had ten children; Evelina, Famie, Jesse, Clyde, Florence, Gussie, Fannie, Lydia, Howard, and Horace. Emily Sibley was married to Alexander Davis and had seven children; James (known as “Jim”), Missouri, (known as “Duie”) Mertie Bell, Lue Alice, Henry, Ozell (known as”Uncle Mack”) and Maria. Nellie Sibley had no children and no more information is available.
Peter James Sibley married Carrie Drummond and had five children; Robert (known as “Bob”) Alexander (known as “Van”) Milton, Gracie Bell, and Orleen (known as “Fussie”) Peter James Sibley was born in 1871 and died in 1928. Carrie Drummond Sibley died in 1946. Robert “Bob” married Essie Roberts from St. Marys and had no children but reared his sister Orleen’s daughter, Carletha Sapp after her mother’s death. Robert worked as a stevedore during the construction of Kings Bay Military Facility in St. Marys, GA. Milton died in 1990. Alexander “Van” married Laura Bell Drummond and had one son; Peter James (known as “P.J.”) born September 14, 1910. After Laura’s death in 1928, Van moved to Tampa, FL to find better work. Later he met and married Ellen. When his mother Carrie became ill, Van returned to St. Marys and remained until his death later that year in 1946.
Peter James Sibley, II (known as “P.J.”) married Earnestine Campbell on May 19, 1935 and had eight children; Laura Bell, Peter James (known as “Junior/P.J.”) Wallace Jerome, Wilbert Otis, Princie Mae, Betty Jean, Ernie Mae (known as “Tiney”) and Alexander Van (known as “Van”).

Milton married Juanita and had no children but reared Eartha Mae’s son, Howard Sibley Mobley after her death. Gracie Bell Sibley married Henry Williams and had one son, Theoplis born May 16, 1912 in Woodbine, GA. Gracie Bell died between 1941 and 1942. Theoplis moved to Brunswick where he married Isabelle Lewis and had two children; Theoplis Jr. and Barbara. Theoplis Jr. has a daughter, Latonia. Latonia married Derrick Bougouneau and have two children; BriAnna Nicole and Skye Taylor. Latonia and her family live Virginia Beach, VA. Orleen “Fussie” moved to Tampa, FL where she met and married Ralph Todd and had five daughters; Eartha Mae, Carlethia, Ozie B, Sweetie Mae, and Curstistine. Later Orleen met and married Mr. Samuels. Orleen worked and retired from the Gorge Laundry company. Orleen’s three youngest daughters lived with their father near Tallahassee until completing school and later return to Tampa, FL to live with their mother and stepfather. Orleen died in 1959. Carlethia Sapp married David Lucas and had two children Euratee and John. Carletia died in 1996.
Euratee Lucas Drummond McCray was born January 7, 1943 in Woodbine, GA. She married Joseph Drummond and had three children. She later married Frank McCray who preceded her in death. Euratee died October 11, 1998. Ozie B was born January 3, 1929 to Orlean and Ralph Todd. She married Ralph Williams and had eight children; Minnie, Emma, Lester Jr. Alfonso, Evelyn, Ollie Mae, Lujene, and Ike. Ozie B Todd Williams died September 9, 1993. Aaron Sibley had five children; Fostina, Lillian, Aaron Jr., Andy, and Ruth. Jim Sibley, the youngest child was born October 5, 1876 in Scarlett, GA. Jim married Lucy Williams and had no children but reared four children; Ruby Graham, Lonnie Mae Drummond, Rufus and Malachi Bank. Gertrude moved to Jessup, GA at an early age.
Sweetie Mae Todd Larry was born August 26, 1931 to Ralph and Orlean Sibley Todd in Tampa, FL. At an early age Sweetie Mae’s family moved to Tallahassee, FL where she attended public school. She moved back to Tampa and married Mr. Larry. Sweetie Mae was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Curstistine Todd McWhite was born January 6, 1931 to Ralph and Orlean Sibley Todd in Tampa, FL. Curstistine moved to Wespee, FL and lived there 17 years before moving back to Tampa. Curstistine worked for 26 years in retail at Two Sisters Dress Shop in Tampa. Curstistine married Mr. Willie McWhite in 1951. She had no children.
William Mackey Jr. was born June 9, 1920 in Jacksonville, FL to William Mackey Sr. Of New Burn, NC and Blanche Weston Mackey of Woodbine, GA. He is known as “Jr. Mackey” and is one of thirteen children born. He was raised in Scarlett, GA and finished 8th grade before he moved to Jacksonville, FL to finish his high school education. In 1942 William was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his tour William took undergraduate classes. He enrolled into the Military V12 program and received a BS degree. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. William enrolled into Mondel Institute in New York City and studied Architectural Design. From 1980-2003, William was a Teacher of World History and US Labor History at Empire State College, a branch of New York State University. William married twice and had a child from each marriage; daughter, Constance Johanna Mackey and a son; Patrice Eivind Mackey. William Mackey Jr. is a noted author and has written for 25 years. Two of his books are: “Down Home - Return to Georgia Back Woods” published by Cafe Press and “An Introduction To The Life Of Frederick Douglas” published by Barnes and Noble.
Jim Sibley was born October 5, 1876 to Adam and Grace Parrish Sibley. He was the youngest of ten children. Jim married early in life to Lucy Williams who preceded him in death. Jim had no children but reared six foster children; Ruby Lee Graham, Lonnie Mae Drummond, Rufus and Malachi Banks and the other two children that preceded Jim in death. Jim was active at Westlight Baptist Church until his death on January 26, 1973.
Venona Sibley Weston was born in 1861 and the fifth child of Adam and Gracie Parrish Sibley. Venona married Bill Weston and had a daughter; Florence Weston. Verona died at an early age and is buried at a cemetery in Woodbine, GA.
Florence Weston is the only child of Venona Sibley and Bill Weston. Florence married Burrell Campbell and had six children; Mamie Williams, Florence Holland, Fannie Nutt, Clyde and Henry Campbell.
Cornelius Sibley, Jr. was born December 25, 1911 to Cornelius Sibley, Sr. Cornelius, Jr. married Pauline Hall and three daughters; Julia Mae Squalls, Catherine Taylor, and Patricia Dunbar. Cornelius was a longshoreman and a retired stevedore. Cornelius Jr. died January 3, 1978.
Aaron S. Weston was born June 1, 1900 in Scarlett, GA. Aaron is one of 13 children born to Charles and Harriett Sibley Weston. Aaron married Letha Roberts, the only daughter of Robert and Laura Roberts of Crooked River, Kinlaw area. Aaron and Leatha had nine children; Aaron was a retired carpenter and helped rebuild the Westlight Baptist Church where he served as Deacon as well as Treasurer. Aaron contributed much knowledge in the writing of the book; “Camden’s Challenge: A History Of Camden County, GA” Aaron was a member and Vice President of the Voters Club, Master Mason, Treasurer, and Board Member of the NAACP. Aaron died November 23,1985.
Felix Adam Weston, Sr. was the oldest son born to Aaron Weston on December 21, 1928. Felix joined the armed services and served in the Korean War. He later joined the Air Force and served for 12 years retiring April 24, 1967 due to illness. Felix married Ann Sullivan and had four children; Robert, Felix, Jr. Carolyn, and Carla. Felix, Sr. died July 13, 1967.
Ethel L. Weston Mallory was born to Aaron and Letha Weston March 10, 1931 in Camden County, GA. Ethel married Arthur L. Mallory of Jacksonville, FL. and raised four children; Larry Weston, Arthur, Janice and Bruce Mallory. Ethel died November 6, 1984.
Dorothy Weston Hamilton was the eldest child born October 9, 1927 to Aaron and Leatha Weston in Camden County, GA. Dorothy was married to Isaac Hamilton, Sr. of Woodbine, GA. They had seven children; Martha, Vanesa, Sandra, Isaac, Jr., Todd, James, and Aaron. Dorothy died February 25, 1997.
Alexander P. Davis, Sr. was born December 17, 1910 in St. Marys, GA to James and Jestine Davis. He married Bertha Brown and had eight children; Sylvia Prosper, Jestine Hodnett, Anna Barnes, Carol Quines, Alexander Jr., Johnny, and Alphonso. Alexander, Sr. died August 30, 1984
Mertie Bell Davis Sullivan Popwell was born August 13, 1918 to Alexander and Emily Sibley Davis in Brunswick, GA. She lived in Woodbine, GA for a short time. In 1953 Mertie moved to Daytona Beach FL where she met and married Albert Sullivan, Sr. Together they had four children. Later she married Johnnie Popwell. Mertie Bell retired from the Daytona Linen Service and later passed away on April 16, 1997.
Clarence Weldon Davis, Sr. was born June 25, 1911 in St. Marys, GA to James and Jestine Newson Davis. He was Senior Choir President and Trustee at Greater Friendship Baptist Church. Clarence was also a member of the IBPOE, American Legion Chris Gadson Post 204, American Veterans Of World War II. Clarence married Anna J. Davis in 1976 and had four children; Michele, Clarence, Jr. Lawrence, and Raymond Howard. Clarence, Sr. lived in Daytona Beach, FL until he died March 16, 2000.
Peter James Sibley, II was born September 14, 1910 to Alexander Van Sibley and Laura Bell Drummond in Scarlett, GA. He was the only child and had an early interest in becoming a boxer. Peter, II married Earnestine Campbell, May 19, 1935 and had eight children; Laura Bell, Peter “PJ”, Wallace, Wilbert, Princie Mae, Betty Jean, Ernie “Tiney”, and Alexander “Van”. Peter II, was a WWII veteran and received an honorable discharge. Peter II, was a fisherman. While fishing near Atlantic City, NJ he decided to explore job opportunities. In 1969 Peter II moved his wife and 4 youngest children to Atlantic City, NJ. Peter II retired in 1972 from the Vineland Bottle Company. In 1981 Peter II and Earnestine returned to St. Marys, GA. Theopolis Williams was born in Woodbine, GA May 16, 1912 to Gracie Bell Sibley and Henry Williams. In later years Theoplis moved to Brunswick, GA where met and later married Isabelle Lewis. He was the father of Theoplis, Jr. Barbara, Janice Wallace, and James Willie Grant. Theoplis retired from the Concrete Products Company and was an active supporter of Zion Baptist as well Abysinia Baptist Church.
Howard Sibley Mobley was born February 12, 1938 to Eartha Mae Sibley and was reared by his great uncle Milton Sibley and wife Juanita until Howard was 12 years old. Howard moved to Tampa, FL to live with his father Ulysses Mobley. Howard married Mary Ellen Williams June 10, 1956 and had two sons; Michael and Derrick Mobley. Howard worked at Singleton’s Shrimp Company as a shrimper and died at sea. He is a grandchild of Orlean Sibley Todd. Howard died February 24, 1962 at the age of 24.
Euratee Naomi Lucas Drummond McCray was born January 7, 1943 to David and Carleatha Sapp Lucas in Woodbine, GA. Euratee married Joseph Drummond and had three children. She later married Frank McCray who preceded her in death. Euratee is one of the grandchildren of Orlean Sibley Todd. Euratee died October 11, 1998.
