Sibley Family History beginning 1900
I’m grateful to share our Louisiana "Sibley" descendants beginning with Leo Sibley, Sr., born February 12, 1906, in Bogalusa, LA. to his parents, Rowe and Martha Sibley. Leo was the oldest of five siblings (one brother and 3 sisters.) Leo moved from Louisiana to Mississippi after the death of his first wife, who bared his first set of 6 children. Years later, Leo met and fell in love with Della Thomas. The two happily married in 1955 and were together for over 40 years. The union of Leo and Della Thomas Sibley produced Leo, Sr.'s 2nd set of 4 children: Ottis is the oldest son, followed by sisters, Mary, and Mary Helen. Leo Sr.'s youngest child is his son, Leo Sibley, Jr. Leo, Sr. was an entrepreneur and self-made business owner, known throughout the community for selling an assortment of supplies such as scrap metal, and product resources to the citizens of Greenville, Mississippi for over 25 years. "It was no secret in town that if you needed to purchase supplies or various items, contact Mr. Sibley,” says Leo's youngest son. One of Leo, Jr.’s favorite memories of his Father is his ability to catch snakes near the Mississippi River where they lived. The quickness of his Dad’s hands followed by his sense of fearlessness made it easy for him to prey upon them. Leo Sibley, Sr., died October 21, 1989. Gone but not forgotten.....
